Re: Hips hurt on potty

My friend moved into a house with a padded warming seat (imagine a heated seat in a car set on low, and it's a little like that). Even though I know to expect it to be warm, it freaks me out every time. It's like this, but not a bidet: http://www.lowes.com/pd/SmartBidet-White-Plastic-Elongated-Slow...

Bowel movements after LAR

I had a lower anterior resection on July 13. They removed part of the rectum and colon. Everything was reattached and I didn't need a stoma. I know it takes a while for the bowels to relearn how to function properly. If I don't take a laxative, nothing happens. I have just passed day 3 of nothing. I...

My LAR experience

I had one cancerous polyp in the rectum removed and when biopsied, the margins weren't clean. Fast forward two months later, and I was a patient at Univ of Wa Med center having a Lower Anterior Resection (LAR). I hadn't been in the hospital before except to give birth. I didn't have an epidural then...

lab results in, new question regarding Minute Müllerian glandular

Has anyone seen this and if so what does it mean?

Minute Müllerian glandular rest present in 1 lymph node

I'll talk to the surgeon later today to get that clarified, but I was curious if anyone has seen if before.

Re: rectal cancer- chemo/radiation question

Thank you all. The follow up dialogue really helped assure me and helped me understand the situation better. They removed about 8 inches of rectum/colon. I am anxious for the reports and the meeting with the oncologist. I don't even know yet what I will need if anything. I was very pleased with the ...

Re: rectal cancer- chemo/radiation question

Thank you all. I don't think Thailand staged the cancer. It's my understanding that because the polyps were removed at one location and I had surgery at a different location, t was impossible to stage prior to surgery. Without the surgical team in Seattle seeing the polyp, (they only saw the scar ti...

rectal cancer- chemo/radiation question

I had a lower anterior resection on last Wednesday. I was initially diagnosed in Thailand with rectum cancer. They removed two polyps. After the biopsy results, one was cancerous and one wasn't. I went back to the clinic and they did a sigmoidoscopy and marked the location of the cancerous polyp usi...

Re: What is microsatellite instability?

Thank you so much for your explanation. I had the LAR the day I posted the question and got out of the hospital yesterday. I didn't take my computer with me otherwise I would have thanked you earlier.

I'm now waiting test results.

Re: Surgery is scheduled for LAR

Thank you everyone. It's good to read the various responses. Surgery will start in a few hours. I'm nervous and not sleeping. I'll sleep in the hospital instead!

What is microsatellite instability?

My test results are in but I don't understand if this is good or bad. I think good. Can someone elaborate?
"The sample tested is negative for microsatellite instability. Tumors without microsatellite instability are classified as microsatellite stable."

Thank you,

Catherine

Surgery is scheduled for LAR

I'm having LAR surgery on Wednesday. It's taken a while from Diagnosis to surgery. I'm a bit nervous as we all are facing the unknown. They don't think I will need a stoma, they think it will be cookie cutter etc. I hope the surgery goes as well as they expect. I will finally know the grade after su...

International flight post colon surgery

I am scheduled for surgery, no chemo or radiation. They think it was caught very early. For those who have healed within 6 weeks and went back to work- how soon before you went on a international flight?

How long will I be on a blood thinner?

Re: 4cm polyp in colon, waiting for results

Lots of time they are benign and you may be lucky. The best part is to have it removed before it turns cancerous. The polyp that I had was also 4 cm. Now that you had one at a young age, make sure you always do your checkups to ensure that it you remove any other ones before they turn cancerous.
