BLOG - by Leighann Sturgin - "Last Time?"

I'm pleased, yet saddened, to present you with Leighann's latest blog. This must have been very hard for her to write. I interviewed Christy for the Colondar 2.0 (2015) and she was all business. I even tried calling her at home once we all returned from Tennessee to try to capture some of that magic...

This sounds absolutely frightening. I hope they find a resolution to it quickly.

Looks to me like the deadline (in the very first post here) shows the 31st so I would assume you'll be considered.

Re: My beloved mom's earthly journey has ended

First off, you have my deepest prayers and sympathies. With most of my disease in my lungs, being unable to breathe scares me to death. The experience you shared helps me a lot. Thank you. May your mother find her final place of rest and peace and in time, may each of you find peace in her passing a...

Thank you very much. When I write, I think to myself, "I can't be the only person who feels this way!". Comments like yours help me validate my feelings.

Re: time for a colostomy?

If the only reason you are considering an ostomy is to allow your fistula to fully heal, a temporary ileostomy seems quite logical. Just make sure your fistula is fully healed before reversing the ileostomy. I think I've lived with my colostomy for somewhere around 3 years. In that regard, life is v...

Re: thinking of you, BELLE

I'm sorry I haven't posted. When I made it public I had called in hospice, a flurry of friends reached out to me. I've had several out of town visitors and quite a few locals I need to connect with. As soon as things slow down I'll post a more extensive update. I must say, I have been VERY impressed...

Re: thinking of you, BELLE

Thank you all for the support. I met with my oncologist yesterday and he was 100% supportive of my decision to stop treatment. He said if he were me he'd do the same thing. I have an appt. to meet with Hospice today. They're coming to my home. I won't kid you, this whole dying thing scares the hell ...

Re: Colace

I use Smooth Move tea, which contains Senna, a stool softener and Miralax, which works by drawing fluids into the colon to flush things out. Average time for me to see results is 24 to 36 hours. Go slowly because you may think things aren't working and end up taking too much and yikes! Sometimes I j...

Re: thinking of you, BELLE

Thank you for all your kindness. I spent the weekend in the hospital with a blockage but I'm home now and feeling much better. Had quite a time in the ER on Friday night. The place was packed and I bet 70% of those people didn't need to be there. They were chatting with friends and family, texting, ...

Re: 17 year-old suing over forced chemo treatments

This was on the CBS Evening News the other night. The mother said they want to pursue "alternatives" to chemo. When asked what alternatives she wanted to pursue she said she didn't know - that they hadn't had time to look into it yet. The mother emphatically stated (about her daughter); &q...

Re: Onc says most people keep their colostomies after chemo?

From all I've read here over the past 7 years I can assure you most if not all people DO reverse their ileostomies. Your plumbing will never be what it was, but through trial, error and a lot of support from the folks here, most people find ways to make things bearable with their new plumbing. It ta...

http://colonclub.com/2015/01/when-is-enough-enough/ Link above to my January blog, "When is Enough, Enough?" - a question many of us have to face and my experiences with making this decision at least thus far. For the first time since I started blogging for The Colon Club I wasn't able to ...

Re: Pain management

Is she seeing a pain management doctor. Some doctors really suck at providing adequate relief. Low dose fentanyl patches may help as they slowly release the medicine without the euphoric high that comes with most opiates. Good luck, Allen That was my first thought. She needs to see a pain managemen...
